Micro-Film Competition in the 110th Academic Year of the Department of Applied English of National Chin-Yi University of Technology

  1. Event Purpose: The competition is aimed to encourage students to make good use of the audio-visual tools, read literary masterpieces, and express the essence of literary works in English. By micro-filming, it can stimulate students’ creativity, cultivate temperament, train their professional skills and teamwork ability, and utilize innovative thinking flexibly.
  2. Organizer: The Department of Applied English of National Chin-Yi University of Technology.
  3. Participant: The undergraduate students in the day school of four-year college of technology or division of continuing education. Students need to form their own team. 3-5 people is limited in each team.
  4. Subject of the Film: Students need to perform the story of literary works and the plots, the characters and features in English. The film must correspond with the PG (Parental Guidance Suggested) in “Regulations Governing the Classification of Motion Pictures and Trailers and the Use of Advertisements and Promotional Materials for a Motion Picture.” Violation of public order and good customs are not allowed.
  5. Registration:
    1. Please name a title that focus on the theme of the competition and make an English micro-film which is within 8-10 minutes for each team. Language and subtitle must be in English. The film is required to upload to YouTube before deadline.
    2. After finishing, participants are demanded to upload the video to Google Cloud: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ix40bzcTKFOGn-IReH_uEDwcMthUy9Ce?usp=sharing.
    3. The size of the video should be at least 720(W) x 480(H). Please send it to the office of the Department of Applied English with registration form and power of attorney.

※ The file format must be WMV or MP4. If other playback formats are not supported by Windows Media Player or the video cannot be played in some special formats, the participants should be responsible for the consequences.

  • Naming Format of Video in CD: participant’s name _ video name (e.g. 王大明_勤益英語.wmv)
  • Film Specification: The video should be within 8-10 minutes.
  • Content of Submission:
    1. Registration form (schedule 1, hard copy, one copy for each team) and power of attorney (schedule 2, hard copy, one copy for each person). Hard copy and electronic file must be sent together.
    2. CD/DVD: In duplicate.
    3. Place to Submit: The office of the Department of Applied English.

  2. Time for Calling for Submission: From now until 5 p.m. on November 26, 2021.
  3. Final Election Time: The result will be posted on the website of the organizer on December 13, 2021. The winner will be notified later.
  4. Method of Selection:
    1. The organizer will engage industry experts and scholars to form an assessment panel. The following are the evaluation weights: conformity of theme (35%), creativity (25%), narrative (25%), and images and skills (15%). If the total length of the film does not meet the requirements (more than 10 minutes and 30 second or less than 8 minutes), the participants will be deducted 10 points from the total.
    2. The participants have to respect the judges’ decision and have no objection to the results.
  5. Awards: The judges will select the top five and four superior works, and give out a certificate of merit and gift cards for each of them. Rankings of the same scorers will be distinguished by four items: conformity of theme, creativity, narrative, and images and skills.
    1. First Prize: The judges will pick out one team and give out a certificate of merit and NT$3000 gift cards.
    2. Second Prize: The judges will pick out one team and give out a certificate of merit and NT$2000 gift cards.
    3. Third Prize: The judges will pick out one team and give out a certificate of merit and NT$2000 gift cards.
    4. Fourth Prize: The judges will pick out one team and give out a certificate of merit and NT$1500 gift cards.
    5. Fifth Prize: The judges will pick out one team and give out a certificate of merit and NT$1000 gift cards.
    6. Superior Works: The judges will pick out four teams and give out certificates of merit and NT$500 gift cards.
  6. Notes:
    1. The literary masterpieces should be the novels, dramas or other literary works written in English.
    2. The form of performance is not limited to character performance. It can also be performed in the form of dolls, animations... and so on.  
    3. The organizer has the right to review entries. If there are teams that do not meet the requirements of the competition, they will be disqualified from participating in the competition and winning the prize.
    4. The participants should respect others’ intellectual property and creativity. Those who are found plagiarizing others’ entries or infringing on others’ right will be disqualified from participating in the competition, and cannot compete again anymore. They shall take all legal responsibility. Those who are found violating the regulations after winning the prize should return the prizes and certificates of merit.
    5. The entries shall not appear in various competitions or have won prizes.
    6. Once the entries are submitted, they are not allowed to be returned. If necessary, please keep them in duplicate.
    7. The participants should agree to authorize the entries to school without compensation. The entries will be edited, remade, adapted, distributed, displayed, published, etc. They will be used for reporting, displaying and disseminating. (Websites, posters, publicity, brochures are included but not limited.)
    8.  The organizer reserves the right to terminate or change the method of the competition, the award and the qualification of the award at any time.
    9. The participants should fill in the registration form accurately, and must not pretend to participate or violate the qualification of the competition. If being verified, the participants will be disqualified from participating the competition. The prizes and certificates of merit will be taken back and be disqualified as well.
    10. As for matters not covered, the participants will be notified by telephone and email at any time. The relevant information will be announced on the website of the organizer as well.
